Hi Folks, just wanted to extend my personal invitation to anyone considering on attending the Ride for Research & Cary Cycling Celebration at Regency Park this Sunday. I understand there will be new bikes at the Bike Shop tables to test ride, so bring a helmet and some bike shoes if you're interested. There will be drawings for prizes from the bike shops, and we'll be pitching in some free club memberships & renewals as an added inducement. Hope to see you there! |

Think about this: have you ever been on on a group ride, had wheels cross and riders go down, and now have people on the ground bleeding and motionless. What do you do? I've seen this scenario on more than one occasion and concluded that knowing some basic first aid (both what to do, and what NOT to do) can be very important. Scott Chilcote, our new president, has arranged with the Carolina Tarwheels for a Red Cross first aid class in Chapel Hill on Monday, January 15 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Cost is $25, but the NCBC will pay $10 of that for each member who attends. Without sufficient numbers they'll cancel the class. To register, call Patty Whitt at 919-942-4862 x223. I highly recommend this training - it's just good stuff to know. Please call Patty promptly to let her know you'll be there! We had a huge turnout last year for a presentation on the Virginia Creeper Trail and New River Trail. Converted rail corridors offer wonderful recreational opportunities for all types of cyclists, but you don't have to travel to Virginia to enjoy them. Our own American Tobacco Trail is growing, and there are ambitious plans to connect from Durham all the way south to the Cape Fear River. Come learn about this and much more as Bill Bussey, president of the Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy, speaks to us about his favorite topic.

Ever wish you could get transportation and development planners to listen to cyclists? CAMPO is listening, and they're asking for your input. If you haven't filled out their survey yet, please do. There's twenty non-trivial questions about the future of Wake, Granville, Franklin, Harnett, and Johnston counties. Think about what sections of roadway most need improvements (wider-outside lanes, bike lanes or otherwise) and get a map (paper or www) handy because they want your input about specific sections. Alas, I had planned on doing the Tour de Moore on Labor Day, but the weather looks too iffy. So, since I really wanted to ride a century this weekend, I will lead the Raven Rock Redux on Saturday morning. The Raven Rock Redux will be the 100 mile route of the Raven Rock Ramble. See RavenRockRamble.org for directions to Harris Lake County Park and other info. Since the park opens at 8:00, we'll plan to leave promptly at 8:30am. Please park at the far end of the parking lot, near the Cypress Shelter. We'll have three store stops at approximately 32, 69, and 88 miles. I plan an 18-19 average. The route is well marked; I'll provide maps and cue sheets (which are also available, along with a detailed route description, at the RRR's Routes page). Riders may choose to ride the 100K or 50K route, but the split-off point is at 12.7 miles. Stores are marked on the map. David Cole |

OK - I've returned from a lengthy vacation, and have posted
numerous updates to the
September ride calendar and the
October ride calendar.
I've also posted ride reports generously provided by Tom Sheffield and Bruce Flye - see
And - I've added information about the Fally Rally and the October NCBC meeting - see below. |
| 09/06/99 | I've posted the beginnings of October ride calendar. I actively welcome additions, and need them by Friday, September 10th, as I'll be out of town when the calendar is normally due to the newsletter (the 15th). |
| 08/10/99 | I've posted the beginnings of the September ride calendar, along with some additions to the August ride calendar. |
| 08/06/99 | I've added some late-breaking info to the August ride calendar - look for the entries in green. |
| 08/05/99 | I've finally been able to do something I've been wanting to do - I've revised the starting locations page so that I can link to each location directly from the ride calendar. I've also added a column for driving directions. I've aded a few, but I welcome further input from ride leaders who'd like folks to be able find their rides! I'll add the cross links to the ride calendar in the next week or so. |
| 07/20/99 |
Alan Johnson has added his ride to the House in the Horseshoe to the
August ride calendar.
The NCBC Summer Rally was a success! We had some 130 riders. Other than a few flat tires, there were no incidents that I'm aware of, and everyone returned in one piece. The Shearon Harris Visitors' Center worked very well as a starting point; I expect we'll use it again for future events. Much thanks to Alan Egge, the director of the Rally, and everyone else who helped make it happen! |
| 07/16/99 | I've posted the August ride calendar. |
| 06/21/99 |
I've listed the info on our upcoming Summer Rally - see the table below.
I've also posted numerous additional rides to the June ride calendar and the July ride calendar - look for the entries in green! |

Jack Powell has graciously compiled a list of finishing times for
area riders on the recent Asssault on Mt. Mitchell. See it on the
NCBC member news page.
I've posted a couple new rides, the challenging Six Gap Century ride in Georgia on Sep 26 (see the NCBC century calendar), and a Siera Club ride to promote bike lanes on the to-be-widened Hwy 55 on June 12 (see the June ride calendar). |
| 05/24/99 |
Congratulations to all the Assault on Mt. Mitchell riders!
I've added a number of rides to both the May ride calendar and the June ride calendar - look for the rows in green. |
| 05/15/99 |
I've updated the announcement for the June meeting - see the
notice below.
I've also posted the beginnings of the July ride calendar. |

I've finalized the
March ride calendar
and added details about the March 1st NCBC meeting (see below).

| 02/12/99 |
I've added Allen Walker's Valentine's Day ride to the
February ride calendar.
And, I've posted the revised working draft of the March ride calendar, plus the start of the April ride calendar. I've also added a few rides by request to the '99 century calendar. |
| 02/10/99 | I've posted the working draft of the March ride calendar. There's plenty of space available for folks who'd like to lead rides! (Use the 'Add ride to calendar button.') |
| 01/18/99 | I've posted the NCBC 1999 Century Calendar. It turns out that this year the DOT will be listing the full calendar on their web site at www.dot.state.nc.us/transit/bicycle/. (It's not there yet - still under construction.) What I've listed here are the rides I know to be popular with club members. |
| 01/14/99 |
I've added several things:
|
| 01/07/99 |
I've added a ride for this Sunday afternoon. Dress warmly!
And - don't forget the NCBC meeting Monday night (see below). |
| 12/27/98 | Allen Walker has added a ride for Sunday, January 3rd to the January ride calendar. |
| 12/15/98 | I've revised the NCBC Officers page to list the club officers for 1999. |
| 12/14/98 |
I've revised the
January ride calendar
with the rides I've received so far. There's still space
left on the calendar!
I've also posted the beginnings of the February ride calendar so folks may start adding rides to it. And - I've posted the December meeting notes. Check it out to see who the new club officers and rally directors are! |
| 12/07/98 | I've posted the start of the January ride calendar. Please use the "Add ride to calendar" button to submit additional rides. |
| 12/06/98 | I've added Gordon Strout's Franklin County Friendly Fifty ride to the December ride calendar, which had been inadvertantly omitted. |
| 11/19/98 | I've posted the December ride calendar. There are several dates for which no rides are scheduled. Please use the 'Add ride to calendar' button (at the top of the ride calendar) if you'd like to add a ride to the calendar. |
| 11/01/98 | I added Pete Finkelstein's Thanksgiving Day ride to the November ride calendar. Other slots are still available! |
| 10/25/98 | I've posted the November ride calendar. There are several dates for which no rides are scheduled. Please use the 'Add ride to calendar' button (at the top of the ride calendar) if you'd like to add a ride to the calendar. |
| 10/22/98 | I've added a couple rides to the October ride calendar for this coming weekend and next. |
| 10/17/98 | Smith Doss and Jack Powell have added a couple rides for this weekend to the October ride calendar. I've also posted the notes from the October NCBC meeting. |
| 10/02/98 | For what it's worth, I've posted my ride summary of Bridge to Bridge. I hope it gives a flavor of just how good this ride is. |
| 09/29/98 |
New photos! I've scanned in 15 photos from the
Bridge to Bridge century on September 20.
I have a write-up in the works, which I'll post in a week or so.
I also discovered that I had somehow failed to FTP the pictures from last year's NCBC Christmas Party, so I put them in place, too. |
| 09/26/98 | I've listed information about the NCBC Fall Rally and the upcoming club meeting - see boxes on the home page. |
| 09/17/98 |
I've posted the
October ride calendar, plus done some
pruning of old entries.
I've also posted the
August meeting notes.
And... I've scanned the photos from the NCBC Summer Rally. |
| 08/23/98 |
James Kinn is hosting
his
Virginia Wine Tour again this October.
You can read
Jack Powell's comments from last year
and contact James if you're interested in joining him for this
scenic and fun outing.
I've also made some updates to the August ride calendar. Seems like Jon Buckley has continued to make friends and influence people, and has elected (with some encouragement) to move his weekly ride from Leesville Road to the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Jon's also dropping the Thursday ride until October. I'm in the process of getting the September ride calendar in place and will do so this week (I hope). |
| 08/21/98 |
Bruno Pagis has added
a 30-mile ride to the
August ride calendar for this
Sunday from the Food Lion off Durant Road in N. Raleigh.
If you check the photo gallery, you'll find I've added photos from Spin Cycle's July 4th metric century and the NCBC Christmas Party. Keep watching - I'll be adding more photos as time allows. Also, I posted the Jule meeting notes. The notes from the August meeting will follow in due time. |
| 08/14/98 |
Pictures! I've scanned in the photos I took in Hillsborough
and added them to the
photo gallery.
Also, I corrected the August century calendar to note that the MS 150 training ride on 8/23 starts from The Spin Cycle store in Cary (not Raleigh). |
| 08/11/98 |
If you missed the BikeFest in Hillsborough last
Saturday then you missed a nice (but wet) ride and a cool
T-shirt. You can read about it in my write-up of the
'98 Rural Heritage Tour.
Also, Jon Buckley has added a Blue Ridge Brutal training ride to the August ride calendar for this Saturday. |
| 08/06/98 |
I've updated the meeting notice below to note that our
next meeting will be on
Tuesday, September 8th.
We had moved the meetings from Tuesday to Monday night when we started meeting at REI, since that was REI's preference. The club officers have decided to return to Tuesday night meetings, at least for the rest of the year. Ordinarily we'll meet the 1st Tuesday of each month. Since some members may not receive their newsletter in time for September 1st (the first Tuesday), we'll move the September meeting out a week to the 8th. |
| 07/21/98 |
I've posted the
August ride calendar.
Robby Powell's done another excellent job lining up a variety of rides, in spite of William Jacob Powell being born 4 weeks early on July 16, weighing in at 7 lbs, 5 oz. (mother, child, and even Robby are doing fine). Congratulations Robby and Jan! |
| 07/08/98 |
I received a request from the Cape Fear Cyclists to add
a link to their home page at
www.fridrichdesign.com/cfc
to the
NCBC links page.
They also asked me to add
Clarabel's Ice Cream Ride to the
July ride calendar (it's Sunday, July 26
in Whiteville).
And... seeems like the folks at Harrington Grove Swim Club have suggested that rides start elsewhere, so Jon Buckley is moving his Monday thru Thursday 5:45 rides just down the road to the bottom of New Leesville Blvd. I've revised the starting locations page accordingly. |
| 07/05/98 | I've added Jeff Hutchinson's Tandem ride on July 12th to the July ride calendar. |
| 07/01/98 | I've added a pick-up ride from Blue Jay Point Park for Friday, July 3rd to the July ride calendar, courtesy Tom Fissel. |
| 06/28/98 | I've added some info to the July ride calendar on rides coming up in August, notably the BikeFest '98 Rural Heritage Tour in Hillsboro on 8/08 and the Blue Ridge Brutal 100 in West Jefferson on 8/22. Both these are excellent rides, and the Tarwheels are claiming the BikeFest route will be well marked. (Why is this an issue? See my write up of the BikeFest '97 Rural Heritage Tour.) |
| 06/19/98 | I've posted the July ride calendar. |
| 06/13/98 | More good news! Based on the survey input we received, we have found a new meeting location which should meet the club's needs somewhat better than the stockroom at REI. Our new home is the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, just across the street from The Spin Cycle on Kildaire Farm Road. (See the club meeting box below for directions and a map.) |
| 06/13/98 |
Good news! Spa Health Clubs has agreed to help with the Summer Rally
and will make their facilities (showers, changing areas, etc.)
available before and after the ride.
And... (drum roll, please), Flav-O-Rich has agreed to be a sponsor and will provide ample quantities of ice cream sandwiches, which will be available at the finish line, along with soft drinks, PowerAde, Bruegger's Bagels, and Austin cookies. We have good 50 and 100K routes selected - please plan on being there! (See details in the table below) |
| 06/06/98 | I've posted the June meeting notes. |
| 06/03/98 | I've revised the information on the Summer Rally, based on decisions we made at Monday's club meeting. The cost of the event will be $10 (15 for non-members), and will include a T-shirt while they last. We have about 70 T-shirts to offer. |
| 05/25/98 | I've posted the June ride calendar, and added details on the NCBC Summer Rally, below. |
| 05/21/98 | I've added a Memorial Day ride to the May ride calendar - Alan Egge and I are going to ride the proposed 100K route for the '98 summer rally. If you're interested in a good challenging ride, come on over to MacGregor Village in Cary for an 8:30am start on Monday. |
| 05/14/98 |
If you missed the NCBC meeting at REI on May 4th, then too bad for you!
It was a wonderful session by Curtis Dobbins from REI on all manners
of roadside repair (along with lots of hints and tips thrown in
from those in attendance). You can read about it in the
May meeting notes.
The next meeting will be Monday, June 1st at REI. Come hear Dan Edgerton talk about riding the Virginia Creeper trail! |
| 05/01/98 | Catching up on some old business... I've posted the meeting notes from our past few club meetings. I encourage you to read through: |
| 04/30/98 |
If you've received the May newsletter then you saw questionnaire on the
front page. The NCBC club leadership is seeking your input to make
the club meetings more meaningful, interesting, and better attended.
Please take just a few moments and complete the on-line
meeting preferences survey.
Also, note the NCBC meeting this coming Monday at REI... Hope to see you there! |
| 04/29/98 |
Did you see Joan Nelson's picture in the Sunday News and Observer?
Check out
"The daily commute..." special article on bicycle commuting in the
Triangle.
I've updated to link to the Effective Cycling information which lists the latest class offerings. I encourage any aspiring road rider to check this out. Jim Zearfoss has added a couple of his EZ Rider rides to the May ride calendar (5/16 and 5/30). These rides are an excellent way to get started on group rides! |
| 04/27/98 |
Finally - I'm free at last!
I've completed the project at work that had me so tied up. Now I should be able to get my life back and, among other things, tend to the club's web page. So... here's the slightly overdue May ride calendar. |
| 03/20/98 |
Robby's done another thorough job with the
April ride calendar.
Make sure you mark your calendar for the NCBC Spring Rally on Sunday, April 19th! |
| 03/13/98 | Note: Tara Leibert has had to cancel her ride from SaltBox Village on Sunday, 3/15. I've revised the ride calendar accordingly. |
| 03/09/98 |
Robby Powell sent me some April ride listings, which I added
to the
March ride calendar.
And! I've added some info on the Spring Rally, including the registration forms. |
| 02/22/98 |
Robby Powell's done a super job pulling together an
impressive
March ride calendar, which
is now available.
Since springtime tends to bring out new riders, I'll re-suggest my write-up on Group riding tips, which I hope will help anyone feel more comfortable riding in a group. |
| 02/17/98 | Wow! Those of you on the NCBC mailing list know that I sent out a request on Sunday for help with the DOT's calendar of cycling events. Smith Doss stepped forward and did the whole thing in just two days, so the 1998 century calendar is now available. Please express your thanks to Smith when you have the chance. Thanks, too, for the other folks who offfered to help. |
| 02/16/98 | I've added information about the club's Spring Rally coming up on Sunday, April 19. |
| 02/15/98 | Yours truly has been so tied up at work that I haven't had much of an opportunity to work on the web page. I've got lots of pictures to post, and will add the March ride calendar when I receive it from Robby. |
| 01/18/98 |
I've posted the
February ride calendar - much thanks to
Robby Powell, our new ride
calendar coordinator.
Also, please note my request below for help with the February 2nd NCBC meeting. |
| 01/15/98 | I've posted info from Mike Kinney on the January Nats race he's organizing on Sunday, 1/25. |
| 01/13/98 |
OK, it's a little late, but I updated the
NCBC Officers page with the new
club officers for '98.
I also corrected the spelling of Henr |
| 01/10/98 | I've posted the notes from the January NCBC meeting. |
| 01/05/98 | Achtung! The NCBC January meeting will be Tuesday, January 6th, and not on our regular meeting date (the first Monday of the month). |
| 12/19/97 |
I posted the
January ride calendar.
Much thanks to Mike Wallace who's maintained the calendar
for the past year and a half, and thanks also to Robby
Powell who'll be coordinating the calendar for '98.
I've also posted the meeting notes from the November and December NCBC meetings. Thanks to Tim Hunter for his note-taking. |
| 12/11/97 |
Jack Powell's has contributed his ride summary of Jim Kinn's
Virginia Wine Tour.
|
| 11/24/97 |
Mike Kinney has added a Thanksgiving Day ride to the
ride calendar, starting from Mission
Valley at 10:00.
Much thanks to Donna Powell for her write-up of the NCBC Fall Rally. I really appreciate folks that take the time to contribute! I received some mail requesting additions to the cycling links page. I added links for: |
| 11/20/97 |
I received a nice note from Kevin Coggins of The Spin Cycle thanking
the riders from the club that helped with the Old Reliable Run
last Sunday. I'm glad we could reciprocate, since Kevin and Phoebe
have helped with all of the club's rallies this year.
I added directions to Henri's house for the Christmas party on Friday, December 12th. I expect this will be a lot of fun - don't miss it! And... get your warm riding clothes ready! I've posted the December ride calendar, which includes Jim Fredley's annual Polar Bear ride on the 27th (which goes on regardless of starting temperature) and, of course, the club's New Year's Day Metric Century (or ride, as leader Mike Wallace prefers to call it) on, predictably, Jan 1st. How much fun was last year's ride? Have a look at the photos and ride summary to find out. Hopefully this year we can avoid the rain! |
| 11/13/97 | I've posted a request for volunteer cyclists from Kevin Coggins seeking help with Sunday's Old Reliable Run. I encourage folks to contact Kevin if they're able to help. |
| 11/05/97 |
I've posted the
notes from the Oct 6th NCBC meeting.
(OK, a little late, I admit. Much thanks to Tim Hunter, as he
was quicker at typing up his notes from the meeting that I was.)
I also added the presentation on Strength training for cyclists to the editorial page which I gave at this month's meeting. Note: if you're interested in this topic, I encourage you to check out VeloNews' site's training columns by Joe Friel, in particular,
|
| 10/18/97 |
Photos! I've posted photographs from the
Blue Ridge Brutal 100 and
Tour de Moore rides to the
NCBC photo gallery.
I've also added the November ride calendar. Enjoy! |
| 09/28/97 |
I've been soliciting ride summaries, assuming that most folks are
tiring of my own tirades... I was pleased to receive two recently:
I added a couple entries to the cycling links page, namely: Even though the current classes have passed, I added a heading for Effective Cycling information. This will be a place where the local instructors ( Bruce Rosar and John Bobinyec can post information about their offerings. I also did some pruning and maintenance... Enjoy! |
| 09/26/97 |
I've been on vacation the past week
(which included the Bridge to Bridge ride last Sunday).
Anyway... I've got the
October ride calendar in place.
I have a backlog of stuff again which I hope to get to this weekend. |
| 09/17/97 |
I received an encouraging update from Troy Wilson on Dave Kewer's
condition, which I posted to the
member news page.
I received an interesting note from Dave Connelly (President of the Tarwheels club in Durham) in response to some items in our August meeting notes. I posted Daves not as an editorial on the rantings and ravings page. I corrected some info for Cycling Spoken Here's Big Orange Metric Century on the October century calendar. (The ride is Sunday, Oct 26 and starts at 8:30 am from the Cycling Spoken Here store location in Cary.) And... Jack Powell sent me a note commenting on Jimm Kinn's upcoming Virginia Wine Tour. I've linked Jack's comments to the ride announcement. |
| 09/09/97 | I've added the meeting notes from our September 8th meeting, and I've added a link to Roger Musson's Spoke calculator on the Cycling links page - a wonderful tool for anyone that builds their own wheels. |
| 09/04/97 |
I've posted info on the Fall Rally - please see the table below.
On a sadder note, I added an entry in the member news page regarding Dave Kewer's crash last weekend while on a training ride in the mountains. Dave is at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem with serious but not life-threatening injuries. I encourage you to keep Dave in your thoughts and prayers, and to remember that the cycling we enjoy can be very dangerous. |
| 08/31/97 |
Pictures, pictures, pictures!
I've restructured the NCBC photo gallery so that each event is on its own page. This way it won't take as long to load and you won't waste time loading pictures you may have already seen. I've added pages with photos for:
I've also added a Mailing list page to work with the mailing list we'll be using to send email to club members. Ther are forms there to let you add, remove, or revise your name on the mailing list, or to submit email to be sent to club members (please read the Acceptable Use Policy, however). |
| 08/24/97 |
Finally getting around to some old business! I've added:
|
| 08/20/97 |
Got rained out of Ed Downing's
Oh Melo Velo ride tonight, so I got the
September ride calendar in place.
I still have a backlog of material - please be patient! |
| 08/17/97 |
I was out of town all weekend and didn't even get a chance to ride, much
less update the web page.
And alas, I'm heading out of town again so I don't expect to have
any new items here until Thursday or Friday, in spite of the fact that
I've received numerous odds and ends (including the September ride calendar)
that need to be posted.
However... I have room in my van for three additional riders for the Blue Ridge Brutal 100 ride this Saturday (8/23) in West Jefferson. We'll be leaving Friday afternoon around 4:00 (depends on the schedules of who all's going), staying at the lovely Nations Inn in West Jefferson Friday night, riding Saturday, and then returning Saturday evening. If you'd like to to join Robby Powell, Ed Downing, and me, please email me at dlcole@vnet.ibm.net. |
| 08/13/97 | I've added the meeting notes from our August 4th meeting, and I've also added a summary of last Saturday's BikeFest Rural Heritage Tour in Hillsborough. |
| 08/12/97 |
Lost and found! Steven Kirincich from the Tarwheels called to say that someone had left their helmet at the courthouse following Saturday's BikeFest ride. If the helmet is yours, contact Steven at (919) 933-5230. Also, if any of you found a front wheel somewhere between Apex and Hillsborough, Chris Kalberg would be very happy to have two wheels on his Merlin again. (I'll write up the details of this story and the BikeFest ride later, right now I'm just hoping Chris can be reunited with his wheel.) |
| 07/31/97 |
I added a ride to the calendar for Saturday out of Cary, plus updated the ride starting places with maps to the Apex Town hall and Pleasant Union Elementary School. |
| 07/29/97 |
Ride with Lance Armstrong! And support a good cause...
Check out the info on the
Jimmy V Cycling Classic with Lance Armstrong.
|
| 07/20/97 |
I posted the August ride calendar (thanks again to Mike Wallace for putting this together each month). I've got more stuff to add; stay tuned! |
| 07/13/97 |
Caught up with a few more things... The notes from the July 7th NCBC meeting are in place (thanks to Tim Hunter!). Gregg Warren provided the names and captions for the photos from the Mt. Mitchell Training weekend. I've added a Public cries for help page, in response to requests I've received, particularly one from Alethea Wieland regarding her stolen '97 dark blue 50cm Specialized Allez M2. Since it seemed related, I moved the Questions needing answers section to there from the editorial page. |
| 07/12/97 |
I've added a variety of odds and ends I've received over the past couple weeks... I've received some notes from folks seeking help on cycling related topics, so I've added a Questions needing ansers section to the editorial page. A response has been posted in the Letters to the web master, also on the editorial page (any more out there...?) Folks from the Hilly-Hellacious Hundred pointed out that their century on Sunday, August 17 had been omitted from the century calendar (it's there now). Note: this year, HHH does not immediately follow the Blue Ridge Brutal 100, which is Saturday, August 23. I know some folks enjoyed(?) doing both rides back to back. And, new member news! NCBC women (Joy Dempsey and Cynthia Van Der Wiele) placed in the State Games time trial. I still have more to add, including the notes from our July 7th meeting. Watch this space! |
| 06/30/97 |
Finally! I've got the photos from Mt. Mitchell (the training ride weekend and the Assault itself) scanned and in place. Check out the photo gallery to see the latest. Bruce Rosar has provided information on the Effective Cycling Road I class to be offered in Cary starting on July 12th. I also received some info on Critical Mass - read it to see what Critical Mass is all about. (Raleigh's first Critical Mass ride will be Friday, July 11th - see the July ride calendar for more info.) In case you missed it in the newsletter, I added Jack Powell's account of his first Assault on Mt. Mitchell - everything you might want to know about this gruelling event, and then some, written in Jack's own inimitable style. I've added an editorial page (Rantings and ravings) where you can see folks' warped opinions and add your own. I added an article of my own on group riding tips to get things started, plus there's some email I had received. So - there's lots of new stuff here. Enjoy! |

Your web master's been out of town the past couple weeks on vacation and business travel, but at last have made some overdue updates. I've added the ride calendar for July, and made some corresponding changes to related files (e.g., starting places). I'm going to add an editorial ("rantings and ravings") page as soon as I'm able, and still have photos to scan. Watch this space! |

I've added the meeting notes from last Monday's club meeting, info on the Spring Rally, and info on the Durham Club's Bikefest ride in August. I also revised the Mt. Mitchell results based on some notes I had received. (If you're not listed and want to be please send me a note.) The full results are listed on the Mt. Mitchell web page (see the "Links to other cycling sites" page). I also caught up with adding some links folks have suggested (again, see the "Links to other cycling sites" page). Check out "Steve's Amazing Bicycle Trip" for an interesting (aleit lengthy) cycling travelogue. |

I've added a link to the Bicyclist magazine home page. Bicyclist was formerly Bicycle Guide, and I've been impressed with their magazine ever since I picked up a copy at last year's Tour DuPont (they were a sponsor). Bicyclist is aimed at road bikes, and they do an excellent job of bike and new product reviews. So... take a few minutes and check out their site. I still haven't got my photos scanned in yet - stay tuned! |
