Volunteers Requested for Special Olympics World Games

Posted by Jim Zearfoss, zearo@aol.com, 851-2009

As you may have heard, the Special Olympics World Games are coming to Raleigh this summer. The dates are from June 25 through July 4. This event will bring a great deal of exposure to the area and we may want to help make it shine. There are quite a few different sports and venues planned for the two weeks, one of which is cycling. The are two cycling venues and races. There will be time trial events and shorter road race events held at the Highway Patrol Training Center in Garner. These events will be held June 26, 28, 29, July 1 and 2. In addition, there will be on road races scheduled through Cary June 26 and July 3. We have been told that the racers in these categories can be expected to average 20 - 25 mph for the various events.

Volunteers are needed for the following tasks/ duties:

If you are interested in participating in a fulfilling 2 weeks (or two days), during the times you are available, call Jim Zearfoss @ 851-2009 for an application. If you want specific information regarding times and duties you can call me or the competition manager, Bill Cruse, @ 848-0005. In order to assure that you "get" cycling, it is advised that you do not just hand in your application to the general collection. If you have already handed in an application, contact me and we can direct it towards the cycling events.
