Hi All,

Here is a picture from the start of the 24 hour Flèche ride, just completed at 6:20 this (Saturday) morning! We did 237 miles and had a great time. We got 2/3's of the distance done in 1/2 the time, Going fast and having fun sprinting to "win" county line and town line signs, etc! Then by the rules of the event, we had to slow down our pace and kill time, staying no more than two hours at any location, which is harder than you think after 9pm on country roads in NC. We accomplished this through a series of Chinese restaurants, coffee shops, quickie marts and the Waffle House! The ride would have been much easier if we could have just ridden straight through! Temperature was 38°F at the start in Linville NC, but clear and beautiful through the day, up to 77°F. The second night it dropped to 46°F, so it really couldn't have been a better day for such a challenge. We went from the mountains to Liberty NC, then reversed direction and finished near Lexington, NC.

In the photo are me, Greg Schild from NY, John D'elia from CT (who will be on a two man team for the Race Across America {RAAM} event later this year), John Ende from near me in Marion NC and our team captain, and finally my brevet biking buddy Mike Dayton from Raleigh. As far as I know we'll all be together again to do the 1200km ride, Paris-Brest-Paris, in 2007. And hopefully, for a lot of biking in between.

And now, I'm going to bed!
