These are the notes from the November 3rd, 1997 meeting of the NCBC.
The meeting was convened at REI at Crossroads Shopping Center in Cary. Club president Jim Fredley presided.
Webmaster David Cole gave a presentation on Strength training for cyclists. He opened by saying that the regimen he recommended had helped him eliminate the severe back pain he used to experience and most of his knee pain.
Jim summarized the nominations for NCBC officials. Current vice-president Henri Bohl is the only nominee for the office of president. Carol Schroeder is the only nominee for the office of vice-president. Katherine O'Malley, current club treasurer, has agreed to run again for that office. Since there were no nominees for the office of secretary, Katherine also volunteered to serve as secretary in the coming year. Continuing in their volunteer roles will be Al Johnson, membership coordinator, Tim Hunter, newsletter editor, and David Cole, webmaster. Jim, who will be stepping down as president, volunteered to continue his work as sponsor/media liason. In order to give another opportunity to members who are interested in serving as a club officer, the election was postponed until the December meeting, which will be held in conjunction with the annual Christmas party.
David recommended that the club purchase a 5 ft. by 10 ft. Haulmark trailer, at approximately $2000.00. The trailer will be used to store club-owned items such as coolers between rallies. He noted that Sheila Miller has volunteered to park the trailer at her house. Jim pointed out that a purchase of this size must be voted on by a 2/3 majority of members present at a meeting. In order to give members a chance to decide and to vote, the vote will be taken at the December business meeting.
Henri restated her plans to host the annual Christmas party at her house. The party will be held on Friday, December 12. Although usually the party has started at 7:00 PM, Henri said she would rather start it at 5:00 PM so that members who do not have time to attend the full party can at least stop by for a drink on their way home from work. Jim explained that it is usual for the party to be pot-luck, but the club will provide soft drinks and a deli tray. Henri said that her microwave and oven will be available to those bringing hot food. Al Johnson will bring his special holiday beer again this year. Jim said he would also invite our sponsors. As usual, there will be a short business meeting to hold elections.
Bruce Rosar suggested keeping a task list on the Web page so that members could see if there was anything they could help with. David agreed to do this.
David asked if anybody knew if there would be a New Year's Day ride again this year? He agreed to check with Mike Wallace, who usually leads this ride.
