NCBC meeting notes - April '97
These are the notes from the April 7th, 1997 meeting of the NCBC.
The meeting was convened at REI at Crossroads Shopping Center in Cary.
Feature presentation
Bruce Rosar presenting information on Effective Cycling, the
League of American Bicyclists'
program for bicycle skills training.
- Exercise the Bike side of your brain!
- Bruce will be teaching Road I in July 12th, 19th, and 26th
at the Cary Community Center
- Class offers 9 hours of instruction, with on-the-bike practice
- Need 8-10 students for a class (normally)
- Class targeted not so much for beginning cyclists,
but rather those who wish to become skilled and experienced cyclists,
comfortable riding in groups, in traffic, with repairs, etc.
- topics include things like:
- vehicular cycling
- selecting a bike
- bike fit

Cue sheets
- Jim provided a variety of cue sheets from his massive archives for
ride leaders to use
- Henri has them for anyone who's interested
Waiver forms
- Jim provided copies of LAB ride waiver forms for
ride leaders who wish to use them
- Henri has 'em
Newsletter
new style by Tim Hunter presented and appreciated
Spring Rally
- Have permission from owners for all three sag stops
- Al Johnson will prepare cue sheets and accompanying route maps
- Will need to include cell phone number on cue sheets
- Special event permit approved by Town of Cary, $50 fee waived
- Logos provided to Carol Schroeder for T shirts
- No sponsor dollars acquired for t-shirts, so we'll sell at cost
(around $6.50).
- David Reitmeyer and Jim Fredley will sweep 100 mile route
- Joan Baldasaro will pick up bagels
- Don't know status of Austen foods - David to ask Sheila
- Henri will ask Spa Health Club about manning sag stop 3
- Katherine will find out specifics from Coke (PowerAde)
- David will check w/ Sheila about getting Ice
- Al to email Katherine directions to sag stops
- Will go for large capacity bottles from All Star for summer rally
(too late to get printed for Spring Rally)
- Katherine will be cashier at registration
- Henri will get coolers and ice chest from Chris O.
NCBC Brochure
- Al Johnson brought copies of old NCBC and current TarWheels brochures
- Al to revise, and club to provide to local bike shops
- Bruce suggested adding info for Effective Cycling offerings
Future meetings
- REI unavailable for May; they will be conducting their May sale
- Cycling Spoken Here has offered their location, and hinted at
providing food, too
- Jim will verify plans in time to be included in May newsletter
- Feature presentation will be "Tandem touring in France" by
Smith Doss and Claude Monnier
- Will also discuss plans for summer rides/meetings
Other business
- agreed to make position of webmaster an NCBC office, with
all the rights and privileges thereof. (Thanks, guys! -DLC)
